Jüngst erfolgte die Besichtigung der nahezu vollständig entstellten astronomischen Uhr aus dem 17. Jahrhundert. Einst galt dieses Meisterwerk als Symbol technischer Perfektion, doch die jüngst durchgeführte Restaurierung missachtet die Historie in Gänze. In der Retrospektive lässt sich feststellen, dass der fortschreitende Verfall durch unsachgemäße Eingriffe eher beschleunigt als aufgehalten wurde. Die für den Fortbestand der Mechanik notwendigen Reinigungsarbeiten wurden oberflächlich und ohne Rücksicht auf die ursprüngliche Konstellation der Zahnräder vollzogen. Zuweilen scheint es, als habe man den Geist der Epoche völlig in Vergessenheit geraten lassen. Bisweilen wirkt das Zifferblatt durch die Verwendung moderner Kunststoffe nahezu grotesk, da der historische Zeitgeist hierbei vollkommen passe ist. Die unaufhaltsam voranschreitende Korrosion der Zeiger hätte eine behutsamere Behandlung erfordert, statt die sukzessive Zerstörung der Patina in Kauf zu nehmen. Bis dato war eine derart nachlässige Handhabung antiker Exponate in meiner Lebzeit beispiellos. Nach Beendigung dieser fragwürdigen Maßnahme zeigt sich unvermittelt ein mechanischer Stillstand, der die astronomische Anzeige in Echtzeit verunmöglicht. Die ursprünglich angedachte Wiederbelebung der Astronomie-Anzeige gleicht nun eher einer musealen Katastrophe. Es ist zu hoffen, dass die Uhr, die schon so manchen Lenz überdauert hat, alsbald durch qualifizierte Hände zu neuem Glanz auferstehen kann, bevor die Ära der Feinmechanik sich endgültig der Neige zuneigt. Eine rückwirkende Korrektur der Fehler ist durchweg unumgänglich, um den kulturellen Wert allzeit zu wahren.

Recently, an inspection of the nearly completely disfigured astronomical clock from the 17th century took place. This masterpiece was once considered a symbol of technical perfection, but the recently performed restoration disregards its history in its entirety. In retrospect, it can be observed that the progressive decay was accelerated rather than halted by improper interventions. The cleaning work necessary for the preservation of the mechanics was carried out superficially and without consideration for the original constellation of the gears. At times, it seems as if the spirit of the epoch has been allowed to fall completely into oblivion. Occasionally, the dial looks almost grotesque due to the use of modern plastics, as the historical zeitgeist is completely passé here. The unstoppably progressing corrosion of the hands would have required a more careful treatment instead of accepting the successive destruction of the patina. To date, such negligent handling of antique exhibits has been unprecedented in my lifetime. Upon completion of this questionable measure, a mechanical standstill suddenly appears, making the astronomical display in real-time impossible. The originally intended revival of the astronomy display now resembles more of a museum catastrophe. It is to be hoped that the clock, which has already survived many a spring, can soon rise again to new splendor through qualified hands before the era of precision mechanics finally comes to an end. A retroactive correction of the errors is consistently unavoidable in order to preserve the cultural value at all times.
