Die Geschichte unserer Kathedrale begann vor vielen Jahrhunderten. Zunächst baute man nur einen kleinen Chor aus Stein für das Grab eines Heiligen. Ein berühmter Papst besuchte circa drei Jahre später die Stadt und verlieh der Kirche einen königlichen Status. Die Bauarbeiten dauerten fast ein ganzes Jahrzehnt, und die Arbeiter mussten viele strenge Regeln einhalten. Allmählich veränderte sich das Gebäude, doch man musste wegen des Wetters immer wieder Pausen einplanen. Es war ein harter Weg, fast wie ein Match gegen die Zeit oder eine ewig lange Spielzeit ohne Verlängerung. Nach der ersten Halbzeit des Baus feierte man eine kleine Eröffnung, obwohl das Dach noch fehlte. Viele treue Bürger arbeiteten fast vollzeit an dem Projekt oder spendeten monatlich Geld. In der Kürze der Zeit war es oft schwer, und man fürchtete den harten Winter und das Leid der Armen. Nun blicken wir auf diese Geschichte zurück, die uns bei jedem Besuch wieder neu einfallen wird.

The history of our cathedral began many centuries ago. Initially, only a small choir made of stone was built for the grave of a saint. A famous Pope visited the city about three years later and granted the church royal status. The construction work lasted almost an entire decade, and the workers had to follow many strict rules. Gradually the building changed, but breaks had to be planned repeatedly because of the weather. It was a hard road, almost like a match against time or an eternally long playing time without an extension. After the first half of the construction, a small opening was celebrated, even though the roof was still missing. Many faithful citizens worked almost full-time on the project or donated money monthly. In the short amount of time it was often difficult, and people feared the harsh winter and the suffering of the poor. Now we look back on this history, which will come to mind again with every visit.
