Sehr geehrte Frau Dr. Müller, ich schreibe Ihnen wegen der gesundheitlichen Situation zahlreicher Angehöriger meiner Familie. Seit der Geburt meines Bruders wissen wir, dass eine bestimmte Variante der Taubheit in unserem Stammbaum existiert. In unserer traditionellen Familie wurde früher nie über solche Probleme gesprochen. Mein Onkel ist bereits völlig taub, und die Suche nach der Quelle dieses Problems ist sehr kompliziert. Früher hielt ich Genetik für Blödsinn, aber nach einer Vorlesung verstehe ich den Kern des Themas heute besser. Wenigstens zeigt die Statistik, dass moderne Tests uns klare Antworten geben können. Ich werde nächste Woche einen Termin vereinbaren, um über die Risiken für künftige Kinder zu sprechen. Das Resultat dieser Analyse wird mir zeigen, ob die Krankheit mit meinen Genen verbunden ist. Vor allem für die Teens in unserer Familie wird diese Information in der Not eine große Hilfe sein. Beispielsweise möchte ich wissen, ob eine Impfung oder eine Pille in der Zukunft helfen wird.

Dear Dr. Müller, I am writing to you regarding the health situation of numerous members of my family. Since the birth of my brother, we have known that a certain variant of deafness exists in our family tree. In our traditional family, such problems were never discussed in the past. My uncle is already completely deaf, and the search for the source of this problem is very complicated. Previously, I considered genetics to be nonsense, but after a lecture, I understand the core of the subject better today. At least the statistics show that modern tests can give us clear answers. I will schedule an appointment next week to talk about the risks for future children. The result of this analysis will show me whether the disease is linked to my genes. Especially for the teens in our family, this information will be a great help in times of need. For example, I would like to know if a vaccination or a pill will help in the future.
